INTRODUCTION
Branding
Branding is an important component of any organization, regardless of size. A brand is not just a logo or symbol, a typeface or a color. It is a representation of a product and the people behind that product.
Although a brand is intangible, it often represents an organization's most valuable asset. In October 2025, Forbes highlighted Apple joining Microsoft and Nvidia as one of the only companies in history to surpass a $4 trillion market valuation, underscoring not just Apple's financial success but the incredible value that perception, loyalty, and identity can contribute to a business's worth.
Most importantly, though, a brand allows you to stand out amongst your peers; it allows you to become synonymous with a product or a market. Often, when one company acquires another, they're not buying the factories or employees—they're buying the brand. The brand gives them access to new customers, and those customers increase revenue.
Brand Management
Since branding is such an important asset, it's important that the brand be closely managed and controlled.
Brand consistency is important in building recognition. You could have the best logo, colors and typefaces, but if they're not used consistently it becomes difficult to make that brand memorable.
About This Guide
Team 1538 created this guide to ensure our brand is applied clearly and consistently across all uses. It defines how our logos, typography, colors, robot graphics, and apparel should be used, while also documenting the designers, movements, and principles that have shaped our visual identity.
Building on this foundation, we developed an online version of our brand standards to make these resources more accessible to our team and to the broader FIRST community.
The digital format allows us to evolve the guide over time and better understand how teams engage with these materials, helping us refine our support and encourage the development of strong, thoughtful brand systems across FIRST Robotics.
Team 1538 hopes that this guide will be a tool to assist current and future team members, as well as become a source of inspiration for other teams.
